The Help

I watched this beautiful movie over the weekend… it was just that – beautiful. As beautiful as it was, it was very much sad and moving as well. The saddest part of it all is that it all did happen and the stories are true. It makes me completely sick to the stomach to know that people were treated this way… I’m sure some people are still treated this way today, but the fact that it was ‘normal’ back in the day? So, so heartbreaking.

Watch it if you get the chance to. It will open your eyes and your heart. I’ve just started to read the book today and I’m hoping it’s going to be just as good as the movie if not, better.

Something Borrowed

Last weekend, the girls and I managed to watch Something Borrowed at the movies. I LOVED IT! I’m not sure if it was because I was in a particularly good mood and was just really, really up for a good laugh (when am I ever not?), but I was in hysterics and thoroughly, 100 percent loved the movie. It might not have the most positive, optimistic storyline – your fiance cheats on you with your best friend whom he realises he’s been in love with for the last god damn however many years – but I thought it was still funny. So funny that I’m going to watch it again today with my sister! The both of us are in need of some major girly time. She has in-laws issues and I have wedding guest list issues…  yes, what’s a wedding without guest list issues.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Date night

We decided on an impromptu date night on Sunday. We headed to the drive-in theatre  to watch, lo and behold, Scream 4. Awesome night. Dumb movie. But of course we didn’t expect anything else other than a silly, kind of stupid, horror movie. We just thought the whole idea of watching a horror movie at the drive-in would be fun. And it was. We cooked dinner at home. Left the house, stopped by the petrol station to grab some cash out of the ATM, picked up a couple of drinks and a bag of peanut M&Ms. Date night set! It was good fun. We got there in time for to see the ending of the movie before ours was to start. Then the movie ended and we watched the cars pile out. Then we watched another stream of cars pile in for our movie. Then we watched each car decide on a parking bay. Funny how people change their minds a million times before they settle on a parking bay. I guess you just want to find that perfect spot to watch your movie from. It had been years since we’d both been to the drive-in. In fact, it was probably 8 years ago, on one of our very first dates… oh, the memories!

Back to work tomorrow. This weekend flew right by.

New York I Love You

I watched this on the weekend. I didn’t like it. Maybe my expectations were too high because it had the name New York and the word love in the same title. Because, I do love New York. Even though I’ve never been there. I don’t fancy movies which leave me feeling just a little confused… or wanting more. Because that’s exactly how I felt. I felt like I needed something more out of the movie… it just wasn’t good enough.

Let’s all say it together – disappointing!

47 days and counting

One night this week, a girlfriend and I managed to watch the long awaited Eat Pray Love. Ever since, I have been wanting to ride a bike like never before. Weird, hey. Julia Roberts just made it look so relaxing, riding her little bike in the rural villages of Bali. I really, really enjoyed the movie. Of course the book had alot more in it, but you can never really squeeze every minute detail into a 2 1/2 hour movie can you? I wasn’t left disappointed so that’s all that matters. I love Julia Roberts any day of the week. The one puzzling question I did come out of the movie with was, how in the world I never really noticed James Franco before Eat Pray Love? Shameless! Complete hottie. Javier Bardem was beautiful. Something about him, or rather Felipe, made me just want to hug  him and not let go.

So yes, everywhere I go now, I just feel like riding a bike… we plan on doing a fair bit of bicycling when we’re in the States though… San Francisco and New York specifically. You know how the saying goes “it’s like riding a bike”… you just don’t forget how to. Well, I’m sort of counting on that because the last time I was even near a bike was, seriously, easily 17 years ago. Speaking of San Fran and NYC, holy shit we only have 47 days to go! I swear the last month or so has flown. I might have just panicked a little this week on how much we still have to do before we leave… wrap up work (I’ll be leaving my job, more on that in a later post), visiting the travel doctor for whatever vaccinations I need, suspending our gym memberships and whatever other subscriptions we won’t be using for two months, lodge our tax returns… too much to think about right now, it’s hurting my brain for a Friday night.

We are simply excited more than anything else though. Most of our travels have been booked… flights and accommodations… we just need to come up with a rough itinerary of what we want to do and see. It’s just so awesome that our Aussie dollar is doing so spectacular! I think it’s a huge sign that we were just meant to do the States NOW… don’t ya think?

I feel like so much has happened in the last couple of weeks but this post is getting a little too long… to sum up a little and maybe I’ll continue more in future posts, Marc’s little nephew arrived, one of my best girlfriends had her second baby (insane!)…. sometime last week Marc and I hit our 8th year together… that’s right, EIGHTH. Dylan had a little sleepover last weekend which was a good mixture of hard work and just ton of fun. More next time!

I’m going to ‘Keep up with the Kardashians’ right about now. Have a fab weekend!

A lazy Sunday

I am all about picking bad movies this weekend. After the failure of Love Happens on Friday, I thought I would hire another DVD for last night… something that would be boyfriend-friendly too. So, no mushy love stories or tear jerkers. A comedy maybe. A thriller perhaps. I picked up Fortune. The synopsis sounded awesome… but in reality? It was awful. Painfully awful. I really should have turned it off half way through but for some reason I kept thinking, “It has got to get better than this”… it never did. The entire cast consisted of three men. One of whom really cannot act and was driving me insane. The script, horrible. The set depressing. The plot, could have been better. Stay away from this one.

We’re having a lazy Sunday… had breakfast at the market this morning. There is a new coffee stall and they make really, really good coffee there. Had a couple of jam donuts – naughty, naughty but so nice. And now, I’m trying to not care that my footy team is playing pretty pathetically on tv.

Happy Sunday!
