Last week, Marc and I and a few of our friends had the opportunity to go to a filming of The Footy Show. If you don’t live in Australia, The Footy Show is an Australian football talk/variety show that airs every week and is super popular with footy fans. They have a team of regular panelists on each week and they also have on random footy players each week. They talk about footy, about what’s going on in the footy world each week, and they have some very funny segments on the show too.
Marc and his friends are huge football fans! Last year when we were at a charity ball, they had tickets to The Footy Show auctioned off for sale and of course we won the auction! It was October back then and footy season had just finished so we had to wait for the season to start up again this year. But I’ve heard that normally to get tickets to the show, you’d need to put your name on the waiting list and wait for up to two years! That’s insane!
Luckily we just had to wait for the new season :) We had a great time! We were told to meet at the studios at 8pm sharp. When we got there, a couple of hundred of us had to wait in their ‘holding bay’ – this was the hard part, the waiting! We stood around for 1 1/2 hours just waiting to be ushered into the studio. It was just a little painful.
About 15 minutes before the show was due to start, we finally made our way into the studio… We ended up sitting right at the back, the very last row, but it wasn’t bad at all considering it was only a small-ish studio. Once everyone was settled in their seats, there was a guy who came on stage and started cracking jokes as well as briefed us on what was going to happen throughout the night – when we should cheer, what type of cheering etc. He also gave away lots of freebies and pretty much just entertained the crowd during ad breaks. What do you call people like him?! I have know idea what their job title is!
Overall it was a good night, but a late one! Filming didn’t finish till 11.30 and we were in bed at midnight. It was a good once-off experience but Marc said he’d be happy just to watch the show at home in his own comfort – being able to go to the toilet whenever you want, not just ad breaks. Being able to go to bed whenever you want and not wait for the entire show to finish. But at least we got to see how the show gets filmed. It’s not very often we see film cameras and men get touched up with makeup!
Oh and I’d normally put a photo up or something, but it was strictly no cameras and no mobile phones. We had to leave our mobile phones in a locker before entering the studio!
