The Footy Show

Last week, Marc and I and a few of our friends had the opportunity to go to a filming of The Footy Show. If you don’t live in Australia, The Footy Show is an Australian football talk/variety show that airs every week and is super popular with footy fans. They have a team of regular panelists on each week and they also have on random footy players each week. They talk about footy, about what’s going on in the footy world each week, and they have some very funny segments on the show too.

Marc and his friends are huge football fans! Last year when we were at a charity ball, they had tickets to The Footy Show auctioned off for sale and of course we won the auction! It was October back then and footy season had just finished so we had to wait for the season to start up again this year. But I’ve heard that normally to get tickets to the show, you’d need to put your name on the waiting list and wait for up to two years! That’s insane!

Luckily we just had to wait for the new season :) We had a great time! We were told to meet at the studios at 8pm sharp. When we got there, a couple of hundred of us had to wait in their ‘holding bay’ – this was the hard part, the waiting! We stood around for 1 1/2 hours just waiting to be ushered into the studio. It was just a little painful.

About 15 minutes before the show was due to start, we finally made our way into the studio… We ended up sitting right at the back, the very last row, but it wasn’t bad at all considering it was only a small-ish studio. Once everyone was settled in their seats, there was a guy who came on stage and started cracking jokes as well as briefed us on what was going to happen throughout the night – when we should cheer, what type of cheering etc. He also gave away lots of freebies and pretty much just entertained the crowd during ad breaks. What do you call people like him?! I have know idea what their job title is!

Overall it was a good night, but a late one! Filming didn’t finish till 11.30 and we were in bed at midnight. It was a good once-off experience but Marc said he’d be happy just to watch the show at home in his own comfort – being able to go to the toilet whenever you want, not just ad breaks. Being able to go to bed whenever you want and not wait for the entire show to finish. But at least we got to see how the show gets filmed. It’s not very often we see film cameras and men get touched up with makeup!

Oh and I’d normally put a photo up or something, but it was strictly no cameras and no mobile phones. We had to leave our mobile phones in a locker before entering the studio!

The Kardashians

I just watched the final episode of Kim & Kourtney Take NY and for those who haven’t seen it yet, it pretty much shows the end of Kim and Kris’ marriage. I have to admit and I won’t be embarrass about it that I have been a huge fan of the Kardashians since day one. Say what you will about them but at the end of the day, I find them funny and their show entertains me.

When Kim & Kris first announced they were getting divorced, a lot of rumours started flying around that it was all a set up, a publicity stunt, they were never really in love in the first place, it was all for TV and for their show. That’s fine, if that’s someone’s opinion. Really, I don’t think anyone knows for sure what the real deal is except those on the show.

I do realise and acknowledge that a lot of the Kardashian series have scripted stories and set ups but I have always believed that what Kim and Kris had was real and that they just fell out of love and that Kim had no idea what she was really getting herself into. I felt that even before I watched the latest K&K Take NY series.

Watching the final episode tonight really confirmed my beliefs and if I’m wrong, then big deal and those Kardashians are Oscar winning actresses! I actually shed a tear or two watching the episode tonight as Kim poured her heart out to both Khloe and Kourtney. I believe that she got caught up in the fairytale of all that was happening around her. I believe that she had a dream of being married and having a house full of kiddies by the time she turned 30. I believe that when you have a dream that big and that special, that when you think you’ve fallen in love, that you want to believe it’s right and it’s meant to come true even though a part of your heart isn’t so sure.

Now I can’t believe I wrote an entire post about the Kardashians but so be it… I’m a little sad that the series is over but Khloe & Lamar starts up next week, so yay to that!

We’ll have a blast if we make it last

It’s not very often that I find myself bonding with nature… we hardly ever go camping, we never really go on hikes and I don’t spend hours in the garden… in fact, most of my potted plants have a life span of 3 months, maybe 4. So when Marc and I decided to go on a little hike while we were down at Lorne a couple of weekends ago, I was surprisingly loving what nature had to offer. The big, tall trees. The sound of birds. The smell of rain. And all that green around me. Something about it was just very calming and soothing. It was a freezing cold morning and it’d been raining on and off all weekend. But somehow a little bit of sunshine managed to creep through the tall trees during our hike… I stopped right in my tracks and just took a minute to soak in what was around me… I looked up and believe it or not, was nearly blinded by the sunshine which only lasted a couple of minutes before it started to drizzle again…

Am completely obsessed with Brothers & Sisters at the moment. Thank god for box sets. I can never watch another series on TV again with annoyingly annoying commercials. Happy hump day tomorrow!

Any melodramatic role is just a garment of the soul

You know what I’ve been crazily loving lately? Episodes of Giuliana & Bill. Seriously. The woman makes me laugh. Like, laugh out loud kind of laugh. Bill is kind of cute. In the nerdy entrepreneurial kind of way. Never really paid much attention to Giuliana on E! until I actually watched her show.

Anyhoo. Lunch times at work have been a little awkward. My ‘new’ office is very male dominated and the only other two females who work there don’t eat lunch the same time I do. I’m a late luncher… say, 1.30pm? Anyway the past week or so of lunching with men have involved a shit load of conversation to do with fishing and boats. Neither of which I like. WTF. So today I thought I would come home for lunch. Seeing that I only live TWO minutes from the office. It was awesome! I came home, made myself a quick bite, watched some Ellen, then headed back to work! Oh the joys of working so close…

I have an extra long weekend coming up! The office has decided to close on Monday since it’s Australia Day on Tuesday. Oh, four days of not being at work… what shall I do! I’m looking forward to a sleep in… but hey, living two minutes from the office and only needing to wake at 7.45am for work? That’s pretty much a sleep in for me! Again, the joys of working so close…

TGIF all! Enjoy!

I’ll try not to rely on the perfect line

So my first day at the new firm went as well as it could go for a first day. Did the usual ‘first day’ routine of learning my way around the office, trying to remember names, trying to make my desk ‘mine’, figuring out the computer systems and blah blah blah. I decided to time my drive from work again… exactly two minutes. I already knew this of course but just decided to time it again to make me realise time and again how sweet it is to be working so freaking close to home. The people seemed nice but it still didn’t take away the slightly empty feeling that the awesome bunch I used to work with were not there. I couldn’t share my Christmas and New Year’s stories the same way I could with them. But I suppose this is life and I’ll just have to move on…

I got home in time for reruns of Full House on TV. Hilarious! Seriously? The last time I watched the show was when I was, I don’t know, maybe ten. I watched Uncle Jesse tonight with Stephanie (who is my age by the way) and it just made me realise that John Stamos is pretty much old enough to be my dad! Which then made me realise that Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise are also old enough to be my dad! SO WRONG.

This Old House

Gail_photo

I have been obsessively watching episode after episode of This Old House on cable. These days, there are a ton of renovation shows on TV… but most of them bore me. They just don’t grab me. They all blend into each other and before you know it, they all sound and look the same. ‘This Old House’ on the other hand… is different. The topics they choose, the DIY stuff they teach the audience are so interesting. I mean, there’s probably not a hope in hell that I would ever be doing anything they do on the show but I really find myself so completely engrossed! Like when they showed us how to make a counter top from scatch out of concrete… when they made a cornice from plaster… like when they fitted brand new windows into the home… as words, they all sound so boring, but I swear I was glued to the TV.  It makes me want to renovate houses for a living… career change?
